Crystallography Beyond Structure in Metal–Organic Frameworks

Prof. Valentina Colombo

We’re excited to share the recording of our 9th MOFspace Webinar, held on 7 July 2026!

In this webinar, Prof. Valentina Colombo explored how modern crystallography can go beyond static structure determination to reveal how metal–organic frameworks behave under real working conditions.

The talk highlighted how in situ and operando crystallographic techniques can:

🔹 Identify the location of guest molecules within MOFs
🔹 Reveal framework structural responses during adsorption
🔹 Uncover adsorption pathways and mechanisms
🔹 Provide thermodynamic insights from crystallographic data
🔹 Transform static structural snapshots into dynamic “structural movies”

Through selected examples of gas and vapor adsorption, Prof. Colombo demonstrated how advanced crystallographic measurements help us understand porous materials as they adsorb, respond, and function.

This webinar also marked the end of the first season of the MOFspace Webinar Series. After a one-month break, we will return in September with an updated format and new exciting topics for the MOFspace community.

Watch the recording and stay up to date with the latest advances in crystallography and MOF research!
