2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry: Honoring the Pioneers of MOFs

08 October 2025

We are thrilled to celebrate the announcement that the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry has been jointly awarded to Susumu Kitagawa (Kyoto University, Japan), Richard Robson (University of Melbourne, Australia), and Omar M. Yaghi (University of California, Berkeley, USA) for their pioneering development of metal–organic frameworks (MOFs).

Their visionary work laid the foundation for an entire field of research that continues to expand rapidly — shaping the future of materials science, sustainability, and reticular chemistry.

For the EU4MOFs COST Action community, this Nobel recognition is deeply inspiring. It honors the very foundations on which our network is built — and reaffirms how MOFs are redefining the frontiers of innovation and scientific collaboration.

We are especially proud to note that Prof. Omar M. Yaghi contributed to the application phase of our COST Action EU4MOFs, supporting our shared mission to strengthen collaboration and innovation across Europe’s MOF research landscape.

We warmly congratulate the laureates and all researchers who continue to advance this fascinating field.

Together, we look forward to the next chapter of innovation in reticular chemistry and MOF-based technologies.
